Iran seeks guarantees over nuclear negotiations from U.S.

Iran demands ‘guarantees’ from US over nuclear talks due to former president Trump’s ‘arrogance’

Iran seeks guarantees over nuclear negotiations from US

Iran has said it wants assurances from the US during talks in Vienna aimed at repatriating the two countries in line with the 2015 nuclear deal left by former president Donald Trump.

Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said former US officials Donald Trump had shown how the United States could turn its back on agreements.
The United States has shown during Trump's tenure that it can ignore foreign interests, so Iran is seeking assurances from the current US administration.

Khatibzadeh declined to comment on the allegations, saying "they are a private matter."

Negotiations have been under way in Vienna this year to revive the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, signed earlier in 2015 between Iran and five permanent members of the UN Security Council - China, France, Russia, the UK, and and the US - and Germany.

The agreement, which limits Iran's nuclear ambitions, was abandoned in 2018 by former US President Donald Trump, who imposed severe sanctions on Tehran.
Iran has also continued to hide the agreement, expanding its enrichment program above the agreed level of 3.67%, but below the 90% level of the arms embargo. In April, Tehran said it would increase its uranium enrichment to 60%, following an alleged Israeli attack on its Natanz nuclear facility.

Last week, International Atomic Energy Agency chief executive Rafael Grossi said a long-awaited agreement could wait until Iran has a new government. Friday's election was won by stubborn Ebrahim Raisi but his government will not be sworn in until early August.rumps
