New Delhi: The Delhi government on Thursday announced that private schools in the national capital can collect fees on a monthly basis in lieu of facilities that can be used with a reduction of 15 percent.

The government also said that if the parents are unable to pay the fees due to the prevailing hardship, the school management will not detain the child from participating in any ongoing activities or strike off his/her name.

“To clear the confusion and give much-needed relief to the parents, the Delhi Government has issued an order directing private schools to charge fees on monthly basis only under approved heads but with a deduction of 15 percent in fees for the academic year. with. 2020-21," the government said in a statement.

"For example, if the school's monthly fee is Rs 3,000 in the financial year 2020-21, the school is entitled to deposit Rs 2,550 per month after deduction of 15 percent.

If the school has collected more fees than instructed above. Referred, it will be refunded to the parent or the fee to the parent will be adjusted in the subsequent month," it added.

The Directorate of Education (DoE) mentioned that the order to cut fees by 15 percent as directed by the Delhi High Court has been made to prevent profiteering and commercialization in the time of COVID-19.

"This order of the Delhi government is applicable to all 460 schools that had filed petitions in the High Court. Reduction in fees will be a relief to all students and parents in the time of COVID-19."

When the nationwide lockdown was announced last year in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Delhi government had directed schools that no fee, except tuition fees, would be charged from parents during the lockdown period.

Tuition fees were to be collected on a monthly basis, as opposed to a lump sum amount on a quarterly or annual basis.

The order also said that the annual and development fee can be charged from the parents only on a monthly basis after the lockdown is over.
