Germany's goals came from Timur Oruz (2), Niklas Wellen (24), Benedikt Furk (25) and Lukas Windfeder (48).

Determined to win the medal, the Indians made an unforgettable return to the history of the game, battling a two-goal deficit to win the game for them.

There were tears and hugs in the stadium as the Indians led by Manpreet Singh and trained by Australia's Graham Reid enjoyed the history.

It is the third bronze hockey medal in Olympic history.

The other two arrived in 1968 in Mexico City and the Munich Games in 1972.
